The 12 Most Colorful Cities On Earth

10Willemstad, Curacao

Since 1997, the capital of the Caribbean island of Curacao has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Especially the bright colors of the colorful house facades on the shore give this city a unique shine.

According to tradition, the colorful coloring of the houses came from the then governor of the Dutch colony, who suffered from severe white headaches when looking at white paint. Because of this, he issued a decree that made all houses colorful. Today, the city is a true jewel with its magnificent, almost glossy, bright wall colors.

Travel Tip: Take the ferry (approximately every 10 minutes) from the district of Punda to Otrabanda. From here you can best photograph the colorful houses and admire the famous “Queen Emma Bridge”, which is lit up at night colorfully.
