Close to the seaside resort of Binz, the Granitz hunting lodge sits enthroned on the 107-meter-high Tempelberg. Every year around 250,000 holidaymakers visit the former destination of the nobles. This makes the magnificent building the most frequently visited castle in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and one of the best sights on Rügen. The 38m high central tower rises from the middle of the building, from which one has a magnificent view of the Granitz forest area.
The best way to get to the castle from the Ostseebad Binz is with the Jagdschloss-Express. The express departs from the Binz Ost car park. If you feel like it, you can extend the short tour to the Prora treetop path. For active vacationers, a bike tour past Schmachter See through the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve is worthwhile.
