Wherever you travel you can be sure to find a local brewery, often producing beer in its own distinctive style.

In fact, German breweries produce more than 7,000 different beers from refreshing lagers to bitter dark beer and each region has its favourite. The 10 most beloved beer varieties in germany are Pils, Weißbier, Weizen helles, Colaweizen, Radler, Alkoholfrei, Malzbier, Kölsch, Schwarzbier und Altbier. And I promise you, all of them have a different taste.

However, when you dive deeper to the question if all kinds of “Pils” taste the same, you will find two large stocks of beer drinkers: some find that all varieties taste the same anyway and they simply buy the beer that is currently on sale in the beverage market. The others, in turn, swear that they would also taste their favorite variety blindly among dozens of beers.

In reality some researches found out that the diferenzes are minimal, because today many big beer breweries are standardized to a mass taste.

2Germans are obsessed with rules.

It is definitely true that Germany has a lot of rules and when confronted width bureaucracy you will find yourself in the House of Madness just like Asterix.

But don’t worry, Germans don’t like rules any better than anyone else. Actually they hate them and always make fun of it. Yes, there is a tendency to make rules very explicit and detailed. I guess that has it’s origin in the sciences and engineering, where such precision is actually needed.

However, this approach kind of fails when it comes down to everyday rules, especially in legislation. A prime example would be German tax legislation, which accounts for 80% of the worldwide output in legal tax texts worldwide, each year. A complete disaster!

Here is a little Tipp: If you have to, just fill out the form and don’t ask why. But I was surprised at my reaction, for I was being hilariously entertained by a German comedian at Quatsch Comedy Club in Berlin, in a situation that could be considered oxymoronic by many.”

Germans obviously appreciate a show of good humor, as fact made evident with the soaring popularity of these comedy venues in Berlin. In fact, comedy has deep roots in German culture, with a strong appreciation of political satire as well as physical slapstick. Also Germans are very witty when making fun of themselves.

One answer in this article is the komplexity of the German language. When you try to speak with a literal translation of humor, you lose a lot of its meaning that makes a joke funny. As a result you often see a blanc expression on the face of the listener.

However, if you are looking for a good Lough in Berlin you should visit the neighbourhood of Neukölln that hosts a large number of comedy nights.

5Why isn’t this menu in English?

Unlikely other countries in Europe most Germans speak English quite well. Restaurants, Museums and Sights in Berlin are very accommodating towards English speakers and you will find menus in different languages.

When you head out of the more touristy areas, it’s common for cafes, bars and restaurants to offer the menu only in German. But Berlin has the largest Turkish community anywhere in the world outside of Turkey. The Berlin version of this beloved treat, the Döner Kebab, was designed in the 1970s just for the taste of the people living here.

Today, you can find this version of Kebap all over the city.
